The author of The Tale of Dracula Voievod is allegedly a man of the court of the Tsar Ivan III, Fedor Kuritzyn, who belonged to the “Moscow Heretical Group” (1484-1486). Indeed, Kuritzyn had embarked on a journey to Moldova at the time, where he had learned of the tales of the mysterious and fascinating figure of Vlad III (Drakulea). Kuritzyn supported the Tsarist regime, and saw in those accounts the justification of his belief that a totalitarian regime run with an iron fist was the best form of government possible.
